From SEO to GEO: The 3 Tools Ranku Uses to Tell If AI Actually Recommends Your Business

AI Overview Tracker, AI Visibility, and Real Mentions: how Ranku measures — with real data and examples — whether ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity cite your business.

A year ago, the question was "where do you rank on Google?" Today it's more uncomfortable: "does AI mention your business when someone asks for the best in your industry, in your city?" We already covered what GEO is and why it matters in an earlier post. This one is different — it's the operating manual. How to actually measure it, with which tools, and what the real data looks like when you pull it.

Because measuring GEO isn't a hunch or a screenshot of one conversation with ChatGPT. It's a repeatable process, with data you can compare month over month. That's exactly what we've built into AI Visibility, the section of the Ranku dashboard dedicated entirely to this. Not a single feature bolted on — three complementary tools, each answering a different question.

Why one tool isn't enough to measure GEO

If you ask ChatGPT once, "who's the best physical therapist in Austin?" and feel good because it mentions you, that's a data point. It's not a measurement. You still don't know:

Those are three different questions, and answering them properly requires three different mechanisms. That's why AI Visibility isn't a single form — it's three tabs, each built on a different data source.

1. AI Overview Tracker: does Google cite you when it generates its AI-powered answer?

When someone searches Google for "best employment lawyer Chicago" and Google decides to show an AI Overview — the AI-generated block that appears above the organic results — that answer cites a handful of sources. AI Overview Tracker answers one specific question: for this exact keyword, are you among those sources, and at what position?

Here's how it works: you enter the keyword (or let it scan your whole domain to discover which searches already trigger an AI Overview for you), and Ranku queries Google directly to check whether an AI Overview exists for that search and, if it does, whether your domain is cited among the references.

What a real result looks like:

That second result is the one that actually matters. It's not a silent miss — it's a detected opportunity, with the exact keyword to act on (strengthen that page's content, tighten the answer structure, add verifiable data).

2. AI Visibility: ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity directly

This is the tab we rebuilt from the ground up: all three engines now search the live web in real time before answering. That's not a minor technical detail. Previously, ChatGPT and Gemini answered from what they "remembered" from training — meaning a business that opened six months ago simply didn't exist to them, no matter how well it ranked today. Now all three see your business and your competitors exactly as they stand right now.

The mechanism is simple: you pick a keyword like "best [your service] in [your city]," check which engines you want to query — one, two, or all three, your call — and Ranku asks each of them that exact question, live.

For each engine, you get:

A real query example ("criminal defense lawyer Murcia"):

Now compare that to a different keyword for the same firm — a secondary service where the position drops to #3 and only Perplexity cites you as a source. Those are two completely different snapshots of your visibility, and you only see them by asking the right questions, on the right engines, with today's data.

3. Real Mentions: what people are already asking, without you picking the keyword

The two tools above start from a keyword you choose. This is the only one that discovers on its own which real questions — actually typed into Google by real users, with measurable search volume — have already triggered an AI Overview that cites your domain.

It's the difference between asking "will I get cited if someone searches X?" and being told "you're already being cited on these questions, ones you didn't even know existed." You enter your domain, and Ranku finds up to 50 real mentions, each with:

A real example:

This isn't theoretical — these are questions with real demand, where you're already being cited, and that you can use as a month-over-month thermometer for your progress. If that list has more entries or better positions in 30 days, your GEO strategy is working. If it shrinks, you have an early warning before it shows up in fewer calls or form submissions.

How the three tools work together

Each answers a question the other two can't:

Used together, they form a full loop: you discover with Real Mentions which questions actually matter, verify them in detail with AI Visibility to see exactly which sources cite you and which don't, and use AI Overview Tracker to monitor the strategic keywords where the most is at stake.

How to get started

All three tools live inside AI Visibility, right in your Ranku dashboard, included in your plan — no add-ons, no separate suite to buy. There's nothing to configure externally and no paid account to set up with OpenAI, Google, or Perplexity: Ranku runs the queries for you and hands back the result already interpreted.

If you haven't yet checked what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity actually say about your business, that's the reasonable first step. What you do with what you find is the question that really moves the needle over the following months.

Check your AI Visibility at rankutracker.com/ai-visibility and see, with today's data, whether your business exists for generative AI — or whether your competitors are quietly taking those mentions instead.
